Part I:

Born on an air force base in New Mexico
I greeted him with a smile on my face
And I asked my mama, “Why is he so small?”

Well, he's the first brother that I'd ever had
And it's true I have a sister, she’s really not too bad
But a brother's something special
It makes me kind of glad to know

I've got a new baby brother
And I want to thank you, Mother and Dad

Well, I was in the playground, I was up on the jungle gym
When I saw our car coming down the street
And I knew it must be him

Well, I was real excited, 'cause I was only four
So I climbed right down and ran straight home
And I met them at the door
And they let me take a closer look, once they'd brought him in
And when they asked me what I thought about it
I answered with a grin

I've got a new baby brother
And I want to thank you, Mother and Dad

Part II:

Growing up together, he was my little shadow
From sunrise ‘til the day would end
And although he was younger, never did I hunger for a friend

Sometimes he was a bother, and sometimes I'd ask Father
To make him stay at home so I could have some time alone
Sometimes I wouldn't play with him
I guess he thought I hated him, sometimes

Growing up together couldn't last forever
And the difference in our ages
Took us through some different stages
We had less and less in common
It was such a strange phenomenon

Now we've drifted far away
Kind of like a cloudy day
When sometimes it surprises me
I look around and see my shadow's gone

Part III:

Time changes everything
But memories remain the same
Sometimes when I'm feeling sad
I think of all the fun we had

I'm thinking of you, baby brother
You, baby brother
And I want to thank you, Mother and Dad

Thinking of you, baby brother
You, baby brother
And I want to thank you, Mother and Dad
